New Nexus 9 Tablet for $200, But the Clock Is Ticking

The thing about Black Friday deals is that, while many of them are certainly cheap, not many of them involve brand-name, brand-new devices. That’s what makes this one different: If you act right now right now right now hurry, you can pick up the Wi-Fi-only 16GB Nexus 9 tablet on HTC’s website for $200. That’s half-price.

This particular deal is only available on a limited number of units today, and HTC will not specify how many. The company did say that buyers will have their choice of black or white backings. Once the $200 Nexus 9 batch is sold out, you’ll be able to pick up a 16GB or 32GB Wi-Fi-only Nexus 9 for $50 off the normal price: $350 for the 16GB and $430 for the 32GB. The two-tiered special runs through 9 p.m. PT/midnight ET today.

According to our tete-a-tete posted yesterday, the new Lollipop-running Nexus bests the iPad Air 2 in terms of comfy handfeel, portability, speakers, and software, and its screen is just as good as the new iPad’s. The limited-time $200 price is 40 percent of the price of the 16GB iPad Air 2, so that’s a solid deal.

Of course, you’d be settling for the 16GB version, and the Nexus 9 doesn’t have a MicroSD slot for expanding its storage. Technology expert Mat Honan, a senior writer at WIRED, says “Buying a media device–something designed for pictures and movies and data-heavy apps and games with a mere 16GB of storage–makes about as much sense as buying a gas-guzzling Lambo with a four-gallon tank.”

With that in mind, once the limited supply of two-benjamin Nexuses runs out, you might be better off splurging on the $430 32GB model.

Android's latest version 4.4 which is known as KitKat, is just a few days old, KitKat has several hidden features. Android 4.4 KitKat now allows you to perform many tasks with just your voice. Much like Motorola's Touchless Control, you can say "OK Google" - no need to touch the screen - to perform searches, send messages and more.

Android 4.4 is only available on the Nexus 5, of course, although Google said other smartphones should be able to upgrade in "the coming weeks." (Any phone sold through a wireless carrier will need a carrier-approved upgrade.)

KitKat is designed to work on a wide variety of devices with different amounts of RAM, even devices with as little as 512MB. But while memory optimization is the biggest change in this version of Android, KitKat also features a wide variety of new developer features and functions app makers will want to learn and exploit.

  • Android 4.4 KitKat Features:

Android 4.4 KitKat on the other hand is loaded with new features and tweaks. The full list is long and exhausting, but there are some new features in Android 4.4 KitKat that you should know about.

3. Ok Google: This will let you voice search, send a text, get directions or play a song - as long as you're on the homescreen on in Google Now.

4. Improved multi-tasking: Multi-tasking is pretty good in Android already but Google says it's even better in KatKat thanks to memory optimisation and "improving your touchscreen so that it responds faster and more accurately than ever before".

5. Low-power audio playback: Android 4.4 allows for more hours of audio playback, up to 60 hours on Nexus 5, according to Google.

6. Calls and messages: The new phone app orders your contacts based on the ones to interact with most and you can also search for contacts or nearby places in the search bar.

7. Printing: Now you can print photos, documents, and web pages directly from your phone or tablet.

8. Google Drive: A handy new feature is the ability to save files, from apps like Quick-office, to Google Drive (or other cloud storage providers).

9. Bluetooth MAP support: Android 4.4 KitKat now supports the Message Access Profile (MAP) so cars with Bluetooth can exchange messages with your device.

10. Chrome cast support: Google's Chromecast HDMI dongle is supported in 4.4 KitKat for wireless streaming of content such as Netflix and YouTube.

19. Music and movie-seeking and artwork on the lock screen: From the lock screen you can jump to a specific part of a song or video with a long press on the play or pause buttons. Artwork is now fills the lockscreen.

 20. Step counting: If you don't want to spend money on a fitness gadget then the Nexus 5 can act as a pedometer to count your steps.

  • Android 4.4 KitKat release date:

For those of you wondering whether your Nexus 7, Nexus 4 or Google Play Edition of the Galaxy S4 and HTC One is going to get Android 4.4, be patient. Google says the aforementioned devices will all get KitKat within the coming weeks. However, the Nexus 5 will ship with the new platform already installed, as we've all expected. When the update does come, we expect it to be pushed to devices with a notification, or users will have the option of refreshing their software update settings furiously until it arrives.

What Are Computer Viruses

How does it happen?

The most common way is by visiting sites that are harmfull and/ or downloading files from these sites without taking the necessary precautions to make sure they are not infected by running anti virus software before opening them. Note: If you stublem into a website that pops a message telling you that your computer may be at risk of a virus, or that you have a virus, and it asks you to scan the computer to fix it, do not do it. You will actually install their virus. The problem isn't downloading the program. It is installing it because that's when the virus gets in your system.

Other ways for computer viruses to infect your computer could be copying programs or files from friends through floppy disks or USB memories without running an anti virus first to make sure they're not infected, or by opening infected attachment from e-mail accounts; Especially e-mails from people you don't recognize. As a rule of thumb, never open an e-mail from a person you don't know. Remember curiosity killed the cat. There are some more powerful viruses that just by opening the e-mail (not the attachment), you can get the virus to spread in your computer and infected.

What harm will it do to the computer?

Some malware are programmed to harm your computer by damaging software, deleting files, corrupting the registry of the computer, or sometimes even re-formatting the hard disk, which means, you will loose all your information.

Other types of viruses do not cause harm to your computer when you’re using it, but they will make their presence known by showing a video, or an audio message to your computer when you least expect it which are also known as pop ups.

While they will not harm your computer, they can still create problems as they take resources from your machine (like memory usage) when executing itself. They also take space from your hard drive and since it is running constantly, they will slow down your computer performance.

How to recover files deleted from recycle bin

How can I recover photo video files deleted or emptied from Recycle Bin in Windows 8/7/Vista/XP Computer

As computer users, we understand that deleted photos videos documents such as Microsoft Word docx files, Powerpoint Presentation ppt files, Microsoft Excel files, pdf data, and folders will go to Recycle Bin, and we can restore deleted file from Recycle Bin. But what happens after emptying the Recycle Bin, or deleted the file from Recycle Bin, or files just didn't go to Recycle Bin when they were deleted. Are those files recoverable?

How Recycle Bin works?

When we delete a file from in Windows 8/7/Vista/XP PC hard disk, windows operating system will send it to Recycle Bin. But if you deleted a file from external drive like USB drive, external hard disk, the file will be deleted directly, because Recycle Bin sits on local hard drive, not external drive. Also, Recycle Bin has a limited size. If file size is too large, or Recycle Bin does not have enough space to store the file sent to Recycle Bin, the file will be deleted directly.

How to get back files and folders deleted from Recycle Bin?

The good news is that all files and folders deleted (even you deleted them from Recycle Bin) are still in the hard disk. Windows only marks the space as free so that new files can be saved to those space. So you still have chance to recover those files if they are not overwritten by new files. The bad news is that when you save new file, Windows may store them to the space of deleted files. Once overwritten, deleted files will not be able to be recovered any more. So it's very important to not use computer after files are deleted.

You should also refrain from any further activity on that computer. Do NOT shut down, close or reboot your PC. This may cause applications or Windows itself to save data by creating new files, potentially overwriting your lost data and again making it more difficult to recover pictures. You should also NOT open or close any applications or programs as this may cause files to be updated and saved to the disk. You should recover your files as soon as possible to avoid permanent loss of your data.

The quickest and easiest way to recover lost files and folders is to use a specialist file recovery software package. There are a number of products available, a good one is Asoftech Data Recovery. I will use it as example to explain steps to recover files. The file recovery tool supports Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000 desktop and laptop computers, such as Dell Precision, Dell Optiplex, Gateway, Acer Aspire, Dell XPS, HP Spectre One, Samsung ATIV, Vizio Touch PC, Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge, Dell Latitude, Razer Blade, Acer chromebook, Asus VivoBook, Microsoft Surface, Samsung Chromebook, Toshiba Satellite, Asus Transformer Book, Acer Aspire, Asus Ultrabook, Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga, HP AMD, HP Pavilion, Sony Vaio, HP Envy.

Step1. Download the free trial and install it to your computer.

You can download the software from
http://www.asoftech.com/adr/

I have to remind you that you do not install Asoftech Data Recovery to the same partition where you lost file for avoiding overwriting the deleted files.

Step2. Select the drive you deleted files from, and start scan the drive

When you open Asoftech Data Recovery, you will see a list of drives, select the one where your files are deleted, then press next. Asoftech Data Recovery will start scan the drive for recoverable files.

Step3. Choose your target files
Here you can see all recoverable files on the hard disk. You can choose files you want to recover. Then press 'Recover' button to start recovering the files.

That's it, now all items you deleted but not in Recycle Bin can also be recovered. Don't hesitate, have a try now.

How to Undelete Files from Flash Drive

USB drive bring us great convenience because of its portability. However, USB drive also brings us unpredictable risk of data loss. When USB drive is used to carry percious personal and business data, an accidentally operation like delete or format will cause valuable data loss. System corruption, file system failure, and virus attack are also known reasons for data loss on USB drive. Luckily, USB recovery can help user recover data from USB drive on their own, support files including photos, videos, musics, office documents such as Microsoft Word docx files, Powerpoint Presentation ppt files, Microsoft Excel files, pdf, and folders.

Reasons for USB drive data loss

1. Mistakenly or accidentally delete files from USB flash drive

2. Transfering files from USB flash drive to other deivce was aborted and files were deleted

3. Format the USB flash drive because of wrong operation ore carelessness

4. Unpluged USB flash drive while files are transfering

5. Virus attack or other unknown reason causes files deleted or hidden, or USB drive asks formatting when inserted to computer

Are files on USB drive lost forever?

When above situation happens while USB drive contains very important files, people often worries that those important files are lost permanentally and there is no way to recover data from USB drive. In fact, those data deleted from USB drive can still be recovered. The best way to do so is by using USB data recovery software, and don't save any new files to USB drive before files are fully recovered.

First of all, stop using the USB drive

What you should do immediately after USB data loss is to stop using the USB drive, don't save any new files to the drive, don't connect the USB drive to computer unless it's for data recovery. Doing so will minimize the chance of permanent data loss and increase the opportunity to recover files from USB.

This is because that new files could overwrite the space of deleted files which will make them unrecoverable. So before you get your files back, it is very important to not use USB drive for further data transfer, not to edit any documents on USB drive.

USB data recovery Solutions

One way is to send USB drive to data recovery center. However, these data recovery centers normally charge extremely high price, also, user does not have the control of the privacy of their data.

The most effective way to recover files from USB drive is to rely on USB recovery tool, which allows user to recover the files themselves. There are lots of USB data recovery tools in the market, user needs to choose the right one that best fits their needs. A good USB data recovery software should be reliable, and easy to use, and price should be competitive as well.

Asoftech Data Recovery is one of the best USB recovery software that help you recover files from USB drive lost due to deleting, formatting, virus attack, or other unknown reasons.

Tips for USB drive usage

1. Backup your files regularly.
Even recovery technology can help recover lost data on a USB drive, but the success rate of USB flash drive data recovery is not 100%, overwrite can make data unrecoverable. Backup files regulary is the safest way to prevent data loss.

2. Do not use USB flash drive after a data loss.
If the space of deleted files are overwritten, no data recovery technology will be able to recover those files. Even in situation where you saved new files to USB drive, you may still have chance to recover your files, but with more activities on USB drive, chances of data recovery are lower.

How To Get Admin Password From Guest Account

Ever wanted to hack your college PC with guest account/student or just wanted to hack your friend’s PC to make him gawk when you tell him your success story of hacking?

Well, there is a great way of hacking an administrator account from a guest account by which you can reset the administrator password and getting all the privileges an administrator enjoys on windows..

Concept: Press shift key 5 times and the sticky key dialog shows up.This works even at the login screen. But If we replace the sethc.exe which is responsible for the sticky key dialog, with cmd.exe, and then call sethc.exe by pressing shift key 5 times at logon screen,we will get a command prompt with administrator privileges because no user has logged on. From there we can hack the administrator password, even from a guest account.

Prerequisites:

Guest account with write access to system32.

Here is how to do that -

  • Go to C:/windows/system32
  • Copy cmd.exe and paste it on desktop
  • Rename cmd.exe to sethc.exe
  • Copy the new sethc.exe to system 32,when windows asks for overwriting the file, then click yes. When asked to overwrite, overwrite the sethc.exe
  • Now log ut from your guest account and at the user select window, press shift key 5 times.
  • Instead of sticky Key confirmation dialog, command prompt with full administrator privileges will open.
  • Now type “ NET USER ADMINISTRATOR aaa” where “aaa” can be any password you like and press enter.
  • You will see “ The command completed successfully” and then exit the command prompt and login into administrator with your new password.
  • Congrats You have hacked admin from guest account.

Further..

Also, you can further create a new user at the command prompt by typing “NET USER Noreen/ADD” where “Noreen” is the username you would like to add with administrator privileges.

Then hide your newly created admin account by - Go to registry editor and navigating to this key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserLis t]

Here create a new DWORD value, write its name as the “user name” that u created for your admin account!

Building Internet Firewalls

Date Published
November 1995.
Description:

In the five years since the first edition of this classic book was published, Internet use has exploded. The commercial world has rushed headlong into doing business on the Web, often without integrating sound security technologies and policies into their products and methods. The security risks--and the need to protect both business and personal data--have never been greater. We've updated "Building Internet Firewalls" to address these newer risks.

What kinds of security threats does the Internet pose? Some, like password attacks and the exploiting of known security holes, have been around since the early days of networking. And others, like the distributed denial of service attacks that crippled Yahoo, E-Bay, and other major e-commerce sites in early 2000, are in current headlines.

Firewalls, critical components of today's computer networks, effectively protect a system from most Internet security threats. They keep damage on one part of the network--such as eavesdropping, a worm program, or file damage--from spreading to the rest of the network. Without firewalls, network security problems can rage out of control, dragging more and more systems down.

Like the bestselling and highly respected first edition, "Building Internet Firewalls," 2nd Edition, is a practical and detailed step-by-step guide to designing and installing firewalls and configuring Internet services to work with a firewall. Much expanded to include Linux and Windows coverage, the second edition describes:

Firewall technologies: packet filtering, proxying, network address translation, virtual private networks

Architectures such as screening routers, dual-homed hosts, screened hosts, screenedsubnets, perimeter networks, internal firewalls

Issues involved in a variety of new Internet services and protocols through a firewall

Email and News

Web services and scripting languages (e.g., HTTP, Java, JavaScript, ActiveX, RealAudio, RealVideo)

File transfer and sharing services such as NFS, Samba

Remote access services such as Telnet, the BSD "r" commands, SSH, BackOrifice 2000

Real-time conferencing services such as ICQ and talk

Naming and directory services (e.g., DNS, NetBT, the Windows Browser)

Authentication and auditing services (e.g., PAM, Kerberos, RADIUS);

Administrative services (e.g., syslog, SNMP, SMS, RIP and other routing protocols, and ping and other network diagnostics)

Intermediary protocols (e.g., RPC, SMB, CORBA, IIOP)

Database protocols (e.g., ODBC, JDBC, and protocols for Oracle, Sybase, and Microsoft SQL Server)

The book's complete list of resources includes the location of many publicly available firewall construction tools.

Forensic Toolkit

Tools to help examine NTFS for unauthorized activity.

The Forensic ToolKit™ contains several Win32 Command line tools that can help you examine the files on a NTFS disk partition for unauthorized activity. We built these tools to help us do our job, we hope they can help you as well.

Key Features
AFind is the only tool that lists files by their last access time without tampering the data the way that right-clicking on file properties in Explorer will. AFind allows you to search for access times between certain time frames, coordinating this with logon info provided from ntlast, you can to begin determine user activity even if file logging has not been enabled.

HFind scans the disk for hidden files. It will find files that have either the hidden attribute set, or NT's unique and painful way of hiding things by using the directory/system attribute combination. This is the method that IE uses to hide data. HFind lists the last access times.

SFind scans the disk for hidden data streams and lists the last access times.

FileStat is a quick dump of all file and security attributes. It works on only one file at a time but this is usually sufficient.

Hunt is a quick way to see if a server reveals too much info via NULL sessions.
Command Line Switches
afind [dir] /f [filename] /ns=no subs /a after /b before /m between
time format =

hfind [dir] /hd=find dir/system attribs /ns=no subs

sfind [dir] /ns=no subs

filestat [filename]

hunt [\\servername]

System Requirements
Windows NT 4.0 SP3
16MB Memory
Administrator privileges
Audit log enabled with searchable records
Set NT command line buffer to 500 or more lines. 1200 or more lines works well

Password Recovery on Windows XP

Introduction:

Lost or forgotten the password to your Windows XP computer? Don't worry, it can be easier to retrieve than you think. What's described below is for educational purposes and to be used only on your own system or that you have permission to do so, also these only work for local system accounts.

Using Safe Mode:

This method will only work if the Safe Mode Administrator account is not password protected (the case more often than you think!) but in a pinch it might be your only option to check.

1) Reboot the computer by whatever means you deem appropriate at that time.

2) Once the Bios notices loads take note of the hot key to enter Safe Mode and hit it.

3) Enter any of the Safe Mode versions but I'd recommend sticking to Safe Mode with no networking.

4) You have 3 options to get to the same end (that I know of at least).

4.1) Navigate to the Control Panel and enter the User Accounts screen, select the user account(s) in question, and select the option to "Remove Password". If this is not available skip to bullet #5.

4.2) Reboot the computer once more and enter the account(s) that were specified in bullet #4 without the need to enter a password.

5) Enter DOS if possible.

5.1) Enter Run (if available) and type in "control userpass2" to the Users Panel. If the Run option is not available for some reason skip to bullet 6.0, if these options are not available skip to the Software portion of this.

5.2) From here either reset or blank out the password on the account(s) in question or even create a new account with whatever user level you want.

5.3) Reboot the computer once more and enter the account(s) that were specified in bullet #5.2.

6.0) If Run isn't available you can make a batch file to get you there as well. Enter Notepad or whatever text editor available that supports saving "All Files".

6.1) Type out the command "control userpass2", perform a "Save As", name it whatever you want but be sure to name the extension a *.bat (which is why the "All Files" part comes in.

6.2) Double click the batch file to run the command you saved in it and you're in the Users Panel, move back up to bullet 5.1.

Using Third Party Software:

7) Two very useful utilities I've found that work (with a bit of time) 99.99% of the time if the above options are not available are EBCD and Ophcrack. You need to insert one of these CD's and reboot in order to use them. Refer to their documentation at the time of use for the most up to date information.

7.1) The fastest option is called EBCD (Emergency Bootable CD) found at http://www.prime-expert.com/ebcd/. It's a Linux Live CD (aka an operating system that runs without needing to be installed) that attempts to remove the password on specified account(s) completely and of course doesn't need to be logged into Windows to run so security is at a minimal. Unfortunately to download it now is behind a pay wall but older versions can probably be found easily enough.

7.2) The best option by far, since it leaves the existing password intact on the system is using a Linux Live CD called Ophcrack which has a very robust brute force password cracker. Length of time need to crack the password will depend on the speed of the PC's RAM and CPU, length/complexity of the password, speed/condition of the CD drive optics and rotating components. In my experience it usually takes 5-15 minutes at worst for an average user's password. A Windows Vista version exists as well.

7.3) Reboot the computer once more and enter the account(s) that were specified in bullet #7.2.

Keep in mind there a a LOT of other ways to go about this process but the above has always been as much as I ever needed.

DVD or CD-ROM Not appearing My Computer

Sometimes after installing or uninstalling an application especially those that
contain virtual hardware like Daemon Tools and Clone CD You end up
unable to use your CD/DVD-ROM which despite the efforts of all known
methods of reboots and system restore cannot fix.

So How Do I Fix This Issue?

Most people go through the long process of reinstallation where as others try
to find a way to solve this problem once off by doing so you can save
yourself a world of trouble in the future. This weekend it struck yet again as
a poor soul updated his Daemon tools.

So on with the show here is the process I use to resolve this issue

Open regedit using the run command
Go though the following keys Hkey_Local_Machine -> System ->
CurrentControlSet -> Control -> Class -> {4D36E965-E325-11CE-
BFC1-08002BE10318}
Within this key delete all the content One key will usually give you
the finger which I think it is the default within Properties nevermind
it. Next up close the regeditor and reboot the computer if you had no
success then well I guess you will need to reinstall. Also note some people
say just have to delete the upper or lower filter key I find it better to just
go clean out the entire thing.
